Pathways at their base level are intended to guide the student through a course sequence of a program. Stellic supports enhanced Pathway functionality to guide students throughout their broader academic journey. Pathways can include experiences outside of coursework such as extra-curricular activity suggestions, mentors, career pathways, and more!
Add Non-Course Activities to Pathways
Just like adding non-course activities to a student's individual plan, you can use the same application within Pathways. Whether your program has recommended extra-curricular activities, mandatory volunteer work, a required internship, or any other type of non-course requirements or recommendations, you can reflect these within your program's Pathway.
You can use the Tentative List on the right menu to add in a list of suggested activities without designating a specific timeline, or you can add the activities directly into the desired term. These will propagate into any student's plan that has the Pathway applied.
Add Suggested Courses
The Tentative List has a "Courses" option at the bottom that supports a list of courses. You can use this to suggest specific elective courses for students in a unique interest area.
For example: Students in Program A and Certificate B often choose from 3 career paths. You can create 3 different pathways for that combination of Program A and Certificate B, each with a different Pathway title and with different course suggestions for electives, based on which career students are interested in pursuing.
Using Custom Fields for Holistic Pathways
Stellic supports adding custom fields into Pathways for additional recommendations or answers to common questions. This can bring the Pathway beyond a sequence of courses or activity recommendations and transform it into a career pathway. The example below combines two different majors, Public Health and Business Administration, into a Pathway for a career in Health Administration and Policy. The Pathway also utilizes custom fields for recommendations on a number of relevant topics and frequently asked questions.
Other ideas for custom fields could include:
- Faculty in the field
- Potential employers
- Scholarship & fellowship opportunities
- Professional associations
- Languages beneficial in the field
- Suggested dual degrees or additional programs to pursue
- Internship opportunities
- Leadership positions
- Service or volunteer opportunities
- Clinical sites
- Licensure and testing requirements
And more! The possibilities are limitless.
